The objective of the study is to identify and characterize changes in the recruitment processes of the Chilean political elite during 50 years by using data on the different types of political apprentienceship. Although, the study is descriptive, it nonetheless uses results from previous studies on the composition of West European, Third World, and US legislatures for comparative purposes. Three studies have been elaborated within the frame of this central purpose: The Social Profile of the Chilean Senate, Political Careers among the Chilean Senators and Political Families in the Chilean Senate.
