The natives of our land, the Mapuche Nation, currently find themselves in a struggle for their very survival. Since July 12th in Chile, 32 Mapuche political prisoners have been on a HUNGER STRIKE, demanding an end to the criminalization of the Mapuche community, and respect for their human right to their ancestral lands and self-determination. They are fighting for their cultural identity, their land, and in short, their very existence. The illigitimate laws that the Chilean government uses to repress the Mapuche struggle are the same laws that the tyrant Pinochet used to incarcerate, disappear, and murder thousands during the dictatorship. Although we now have a civilian government under President Sebastian Piñera, the repression and violence continues in Chile, and that is NOT true democracy. It is NOT a true democracy when the civilian government does everything in its power to grant immunity to the criminals of the dictatorship, while killing and incarcerating our Mapuche brothers and sisters who are struggling for their legitimate and just human rights.
